• Summer Education Program 2020

11, 18, 25 August and 1 September 2020

Mathaf summer program is an annual program dedicated for young children to learn about the museum’s collection and exhibitions through deep observation, discussion and analysis of artworks and participating in hands-on learning activities. This program introduces children to different concepts and practices behind modern and contemporary art.
Due to the current situation and restrictions taking place because of Covid-19, the program will be running online over four sessions.
Every week children focus on a specific art medium and learn how artists from the Mathaf collection and the current exhibitions used the same medium in different techniques and styles leading them to create their own art.

Session 1: Our first session is about sketching and line techniques. We will learn how we use them to create a creative artistic unit. This art lesson is inspired by the artist Huguette Caland. Works of Huguette Caland are on display at Mathaf from 2 August until 30 November for the Huguette Caland: Faces and Places exhibition.

Session 2: Our second session is about print making techniques and how to make tools for printing. This video focuses on the permanent collection in Mathaf and is inspired by Omar Al Nagdi artworks.

Session 3: Our third session is about water coloring techniques inspired by Huguette Caland artworks. The artist has a way of using different kind of art materials as a base to build on it her idea.

Session 4: Our fourth session is about sculpting and 3D cut outs and how to make them. To make a sculpture, there are lots of different art materials to use.

Activities are presented on our IGTV @MathafModern .
