This exhibition examines our perceptions of an artwork from three distinct perspectives: the artist, the museum, and the public. Through revisiting the contested histories of how Egyptian collections have been amassed by numerous museums from the 19th century onwards, it brings together antiquities, modernist works, archives, and 26 international contemporary artists and artist collectives.

Forever Now proposes new readings based on the works of five artists from Mathaf’s permanent collection. This exhibition unpacks new narratives that posit a unique understanding of five diverse artists: Fahrelnissa Zeid, Jewad Selim, Saliba Douaihy, Salim Al–Dabbagh and Ahmed Cherkaoui.

In the spring of 2012, the Education Department of
Mathaf: Arab Museum of Modern Art launched its first student art competition. All schools in Qatar were invited to participate, and the museum received over 300 submissions from schools in and outside of Doha.

Swalif celebrates more than twenty of Qatar's most influential artists and four decades of art production with a new selection from the collection of Mathaf: Arab Museum of Modern Art. The exhibition covers the period from 1965 to 2006, with the works appearing in chronological order illustrating particular moments in Qatar's art history.

Sajjil, Mathaf's inaugural exhibition of works, was a remarkable, comprehensive cross-section of art from the Arab world produced over the last hundred years. Told | Untold | Retold features twenty-three works specially commissioned by Mathaf from artists with Arab-world roots.
